No one in his right mind would actually believe that his fiance did not have sex with another man if she were pregnant. At least no one who had not also heard from an angel. Scripture is clear that Joseph was a righteous man of God. It is no wonder that God chose him to be the earthly father of Jesus. Ironically, the fact that Mary was pregnant while promised to Joseph called into question his righteousness. He risked being mocked and misunderstood while honoring God. Joseph is an example of acceptance and love for those the world leaves behind. Obedience to God is costly and difficult.
